A long curved sword, or Qlig, has a handle made of polished horn covered by a layer of silver.

One side of the sword blade includes calligraphy of gold with the name of the Mamluk Sultan Qansuh Al-Ghawri.

The industry of sword-making was active during the Mamluk periods because of the wars the Mamluks waged against the enemies of Islam and in defense of the possessions of the Islamic state.
