Eternal Egypt Screensaver

The Eternal Egypt Screensaver is a network-connectable client application that runs in the Microsoft Windows screensaver space. The screensaver currently has three features: a slideshow featuring images from the Eternal Egypt website, an animated version of the website Connections function and a movie version of the website introductory loop. The screensaver will run on a standalone computer, but if the computer is connected to the Internet, certain links will be activated, such as sending an eCard or connecting to an artifact's detail page.

Note: There is currently no version available for the Macintosh or Linux platforms.

System Requirements

  1. Windows 98, 2000, XP. Note: Some versions of Windows require you to install special fonts in order to display Arabic text correctly.
  2. Pentium III or faster processor
  3. Screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher strongly recommended
  4. Administrator rights: You must be allowed to install programs on your computer.
  5. Internet Explorer installed
  6. The newest Flash plug-in for Internet Explorer. This can be obtained by installing the latest Flash plug-in for your Internet Explorer Browser. Open Internet Explorer and visit Note: Once the Flash plug-in is installed, Internet Explorer does not have to be running in order to use the screensaver.
  7. Internet connection (optional). A connection to the Internet will allow you to take advantage of all the features offered by the screensaver.

If your computer meets these requirements, but you experience problems, note any error messages, visit , and explain the details of the problem to the Eternal Egypt team.

Installing the Screensaver

  1. Download the zip file to a local directory.
  2. Unzip the file called EgyptScreenSaverSetup.exe
  3. Run the EgyptScreenSaverSetup.exe file
  4. A notification of the installation will occur.
  5. Your Display Properties box will open.
  6. Select the EternalEgypt screensaver.
  7. You can preview your screensaver at this time.
  8. Adjust your wait time and password protection as desired. Note: Enabling passwords can limit the ability of the screensaver to open links you select.

Using the Screensaver

  • To close the screensaver hit the escape key.
  • When the screensaver starts, it looks for an internet connection. If it cannot find one, a default screensaver is initiated.
  • If a network connection is found, you will be given the option of choosing a language. If you do not choose a language, English will be chosen after 8 seconds.
  • You will then be presented with icons. These icons denote the screensavers currently available on the network. You can choose one by clicking an icon. If you do not choose one, a screensaver will be randomly chosen after 8 seconds.
  • Many of the items you see in the screensaver are clickable and interactive. You can move your mouse and click on items whenever you wish.

  • Password protected screensavers remain secure. When you click on any of these outbound links, if you have screensaver password protection on, you will be presented with the Windows login box.   • Once a screensaver is loaded you will notice a small tab on the lower left corner of the screen. Clicking on the tab will slide out a menu of the currently available screensavers on the network.
  • Clicking on any icon in the slide-out menu will replace the current screensaver with the selected screensaver.

Removing the Screensaver from your computer

You may remove the screensaver in one of two ways: Either use the uninstaller, or use Add/Remove Programs.

To use the uninstaller:

  1. Press the start button on the Windows Taskbar.
  2. Click on All Programs.
  3. Select Uninstall in the Eternal Egypt Screensaver folder.
  4. Reboot your computer.

To use Add/Remove Programs:

  1. Press the start button on the Windows Taskbar.
  2. Select Settings and choose Control Panel.
  3. Double Click Add or remove Programs.
  4. On the list that is presented, find Eternal Egypt Screensaver and select it.
  5. Press the Change/Remove button.
  6. The screensaver will be removed.
  7. Press OK to finish.
  8. Reboot your computer if needed.
